For the past 3 years we have been working on an incredibly dynamic and complex design project. The creation of a new hotel brand in some of the most historic buildings in the United Kingdom – The Principal Hotel Company. Out of them all the most challenging and rewarding projects from a design perspective I have worked on in my career is without doubt the transformation of the Palace hotel Manchester into The Principal Manchester. The building itself was bursting with character but had spent many unloved years, smothered in bad paint and carpet jobs. Bringing this grand dame back to life, is for me what design is all about, transformation of experience. It was about bringing a sleeping beast back to life, re-orientating the building, rethinking the guest experience and bringing a fresh style to a city booming with competition.
