AS A NEW SERIES OF HOME OF THE YEAR BEGINS ON RTÉ, WE GET TO KNOW SHOW JUDGE AND INTERIOR DESIGNER SARA COSGROVE … By THE GLOSS

As a new series begins, tell us what you like best about being a judge on Home Of The Year?

For me, it is an opportunity to see a diverse range of design styles and ideas in a short space of time with Home of The Year you never know what you are going to get, and creatively that’s fun.

What sort of homes appeal most to you?

For me, it’s all about flow so I am as likely to love a maximal home as much as a minimal one, as long as I feel the homeowners have put the home together with thought and passion.

What does “home” mean to you?

Home for me is the freedom to express oneself in a way that brings you joy on a day to day basis. An opportunity to create a unique place that offers comfort, sanctuary, and a playfulness that reflect one’s own personality.

Briefly describe your own architectural / interior design style.

I love timeless, textural, and tonal interiors. I very much follow my own instincts and try to be true to myself creatively.

What’s on your wish list to do next in your own house?

Everything! I have just bought a real doer upper, the next few years will be a design adventure for myself and my family.

Do you believe in updating your interior every few years?

For me, the most important thing in any interior is the bones and if you get the bones right all it will take is a few minor tweaks to create freshness in it.

What is your favourite room in the house and why?

The conservatory, it lets in lots of light, and now that we are beginning to see the very initial start of spring you can leave the door open and listen to the birdsong.

Home of the Year is returning to RTÉ One on Tuesday 14th of February at 8:30pm with judges Sara Cosgrove, Hugh Wallace and Amanda Bone.
