Inspiration from Antiquity

When I was at university I studied Classics, the course included a huge range of topics from literature, poetry, theatre, art, architecture to socio-economic influences and political dynasties. It has left me with a deep passion and curiosity for the past which continues to influence my current design work. In fact I am just back from a trip overseas and whilst away we visited several historic towns in the south of Spain. Everywhere I looked there was inspiration to be had for colour schemes, floor patterns, and room layouts, you name it! One thing that really stuck with me is that design ideas we feel are revelatory now, are often just borrowed from another time or place. The Alhambra in Granada was in particular an eye opener, those guys working in the 13th century definitely knew something about detail!
